Kudos go to Jan for spotting this little Pearl-Spotted Owlet in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa. I was busy looking for cats and Jan yelled, "Stop! What's that?!" I had never seen one and didn't know what it was at the time other than a good subject! (Shoot first, ask questions later.) The owlet posed nicely for us where Jan first spotted it, and where this image was taken, then it flew to a nearby tree that wasn't as good for photography. "Little" is an accurate description of the Pearl-Spotted Owlet which grows to about 8 in (19cm) tall.
